Winter Might Not Be Making Progress But The Kids Are!:The latest post from PegCityLovely our Brand Ambassador

Making Roots Montessori is delighted to introduce our families to Natalie Bell (also known as @PegCityLovely). Natalie is a local blogger and HR specialist who recently joined the Making Roots Montessori family along with her husband, and her son J, who attends our school. November for Making Roots Montessori has been as busy as October was! Even more so now that the Brandon location has officially opened! (Nov 24/16). We also continue to experience record-breaking mild temperatures in Winnipeg this time of year!

As I mentioned last month, I was very curious to see and review J's progress report to date. Previously, parent-teacher meetings would occur and parents would sit with the teachers who would give you a brief summary of your child's progress.

However, that's changed this year and I know I speak for many parents when I say how happy I was to know that we would be receiving a full progress report card, for each area of learning in Montessori.

Some of the notable comments from his teacher(s):

"Jhase is a very sociable child"

Hmmm I wonder where he gets that from? hahaha

Also...

"J asks plenty of questions relating to exploring life on the continents."

"J is very confident in math and is able to stay focused on his work. He enjoys being introduced to new challenging work"

"In yoga, J enjoys transforming into a seed and then a walking tree"

"J is participating very well in French."

All of us at home can attest to this! His French skills are wonderful for his age. I can't tell you ho many times he comes home saying the days of the week in French or telling us what the French word is for items around the house. As a result he will be placed in French immersion next year.

The best part of the progress report is that they ask each child about what they like about school.

J's comment: "I like learning French, reading books and I love being with my friends at school!"

He makes my heart smile!

Speaking of reading books, we look forward to getting our Scholastic book orders to build up our home library. J is now wanting to "read" on his own and he enjoys telling the story vs having one of us read it to him.

The weather has finally started to change, temperatures are steadily dropping each week. Pretty soon we will all be wishing it was Spring but the children continue to go outside and love it no matter what!

December starts to slow down as everyone gets into holiday season mode with the kids learning about winter around the world, and having a special Christmas-y field trip.
