Teaching Assistant

Supervisor(s): Assistant Director, Director

Hours:  Currently three positions available: 1 full-time term, 1 part-time afternoons at 6.0 hours/day; 2 part-time for afternoons 3 hours/day. Additional hours on a substitute basis as required

Description: Making Roots Montessori Centre is a year-round, extended day early childcare facility, providing top quality care and education for children aged 18 months-6 years old. Our Montessori programming is conducted in English and French, and we offer a French immersion kindergarten.

There are opportunities for Teacher Assistants to join our team and contribute to the Montessori education and general care of children. A Teacher Assistant contributes to the general care and supervision of preschool-aged children, helps to plan program activities, supports the Montessori teachers, and contributes to the overall care of children. The candidate will be reliable, trustworthy, innovative, energetic, and a lifelong learner who inspires a love for learning in students.

Professional requirements: A Teacher Assistant holds the minimal designation of Child Care Assistant (CCA) with the Province of Manitoba and will be professional at all times. Fluency in French is an asset. Must have excellent interpersonal communication and teamwork skills with the goal of problem solving and support for co-workers. Current CPR and First Aid certification; Clear Criminal Record (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Abuse Registry checks.

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and conduct theme-based, developmentally appropriate activities
  • Assist children during the work cycle under the direction of the Montessori teachers
  • Assist children with classroom activities and personal care (toileting/diapering, washing hands, (un)dressing: shoes, jackets, etc.)
  • Supervise nap room
  • Organize activities and supervise unstructured play outdoors and indoors at end of day
  • Attend to the end of day interactions with parents and the closing duties
  • Available for additional (substitute) hours as required
  • Other duties as required

ECE II / Montessori Teaching-Guide

Supervisor(s): Assistant Director and the Director

Hours:  This is a full-time position with hours to be determined Monday – Friday between 7:15 am – 5:30 pm

Description: Making Roots Montessori Centre is a year-round, extended day early childcare facility, providing top quality care and education for children aged 2-6 years old. Our Montessori programming is conducted in English and French, and we offer a French immersion kindergarten.

There are two opportunities for a Montessori Teacher-Guide to join our team and contribute to the Montessori education and general care of children. The teacher-guide will plan and present Montessori and enrichment programming and contribute to the overall care of children. The candidate will be reliable, trustworthy, innovative, energetic, and a lifelong learner who inspires a love for learning in students.

Qualifications

  • Certificate in Montessori Teacher Training (Preschool or Infant/Toddler)
  • Minimum two years’ experience teaching in a Montessori environment
  • Education and certification in Early Childhood education, development and care is an asset
  • Fluency in French language is an asset
  • Current First Aid and CPR Certificate
  • Child Abuse Registry Check (Vulnerable sector)
  • Criminal Record Check
  • Three references: two professional from work experiences/previous employment; one from a person who is not family or a close friend

Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare Montessori lesson plans, activities, independent learning exercises, and methods that cater to the needs of individual children
  • Monitor, assess and document student progress
  • Keep records of Montessori presentations and students’ progress
  • Write progress reports
  • Attend after-hours teacher-parent meetings
  • Attend staff meetings (in-service days)
  • Attend occasional after-hours staff meetings
  • Participate in school activities and accompany students on field trips
  • Contribute to the maintenance of a safe, clean, stimulating classroom
  • Participate in diapering, napping, lunching processes
  • Communicate with parents
  • Ensure classroom supplies and equipment are available and in working condition
